I found this tag over on Annemieke’s (A Dance With Books) blog just the other day and apparently it’s been making the rounds! I think it’s really cute and it’s been a really long time since I’ve done any tag posts, so I’d figured I’d join in. Why not, right?
Author You’ve Read the Most Books By:
Chuck Palahniuk
Best Sequel Ever:
Doomed by Chuck Palahniuk, Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling, The Merciless III by Danielle Vega
Currently Reading:
The Book of M by Peng Shepherd
Drink of Choice While Reading:
Usually water, I’m a major r/hydrohomie, but if not water, then iced tea, coffee, or a caramel macchiato.
E-Reader or Physical Book:
Physical book all the way. There are a few times I’ll utilize an e-reader, like when I get a book through Libby, an e-ARC, or just something that’s literally not available in physical book form (I’m looking at you, In the Tall Grass), but I do so begrudgingly. I very much prefer physical books.
Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Dated in School:
Levi from Fangirl. If I’d run across a Levi with a heart of gold and a penchant for bringing me Starbucks and letting me read out loud to him when I was in school, I absolutely would have dated him. As it is, I’ve been lucky to find my own Levi in life, but as book boyfriends go, Levi ranks high on the list.
Alternatively, the Weasley twins. Both of them. At the same time. I feel like they’d be fine with that.
Glad You Gave This Book a Chance:
Vicious by V.E. Schwab. Probably would not have ever bought it for myself and I knew very little about it because I’d see it on Instagram alllll the time and it seems like the most anyone ever said about it was, “It’s really good!” without saying why or really elaborating much? But my boyfriend has a copy and it was laying here in the apartment, so I picked it up on a whim when I was looking for something to read one day, and it really surprised me. I liked it a lot and I’m definitely glad I gave it a chance.
Hidden Gem:
God, there are so many. It seems like anything these days that’s not just the absolutely MOST hyped and most popular/trendy thing on bookstagram just gets totally overlooked.
Bad Man by Dathan Auerbach, The Grace That Keeps This World by Tom Bailey, Zombie by J.R. Angelella, Stolen Time by Danielle Rollins. (Seriously, why were more people not hyping this? It seems like the type of thing that would have gotten a ton of attention on bookstagram and be picked up as the next hyped thing in YA, but it wasn’t for some reason. I do not understand.)
Important Moment in Your Reading Life:
Getting to study books and literature—the one thing I love most—in college. Meeting my boyfriend through our mutual love of books. Picking up the first Harry Potter book on a total whim before they were even popular or there was any hint of how huge they were going to turn out to be. There are so many!
Just Finished:
The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle
Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:
The crappy slapped together rip-offs of more well-known books that people poop out to try to make a quick buck without coming up with any original ideas, instead just piggy-backing off the success of others. I refuse to give my money to what basically amounts to thinly veiled plagiarism. Get some creativity, people.
Longest Book You’ve Read:
Off the top of my head, I’m going to say Under the Dome by Stephen King, because that’s the most recent super long book I’ve read. There may be a longer one, but I certainly can’t think of it at the moment.
Major Book Hangover:
Probably Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was the most major book hangover I ever got. Coming to the end of that series after a journey I’d been on literally since adolescence? Phew….It was a hell of an experience growing up with those characters and then parting with them like that.
Number of Bookcases You Own:
Currently three, but I really need more. There’s still books on the floor and in the cubby. MORE SHELVES. ALL THE SHELVES.
One Book You’ve Reread A Lot:
Just one? Fine, Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone, then.
Preferred Place to Read:
In my bed. Under all the fuzzy blankies. And with all the plushies.
Quote That Inspires You/Gives You All the Feels From a Book You’ve Read:
“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us…a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena…our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.” – Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan
Reading Regret:
Thinking that Cassandra Clare could keep my interest after The Mortal Instruments series ended. The Infernal Devices was okay, but I wasted a lot of time trying to like The Dark Artifices before I had to admit the magic and fun just wasn’t there anymore and it was time to throw in the towel on that series.
Series You Started and Need to Finish:
Miss Peregrine’s. Truly, there’s nothing wrong with it, I just completely fell off. I really need to get the rest of them.
Unapologetic Fangirl For:
The Weasley twins and anything to do with them. Dathan Auerbach and anything he writes. Those gorgeous covers of the entire The Merciless series. Ouija boards and nearly anything spoopy.
Very Excited For This Release:
All the Bad Apples by Moira Fowley-Doyle. It came out in August and I still haven’t gotten my hands on a copy – but I really need to. Also the paperback for Vengeful in January.
Worst Bookish Habit:
Trusting the hype for a super popular book only to be let down again. Just because it’s highly hyped does not mean it’s necessarily good. #sorrynotsorry (Is that hashtag dead?)
X Marks the Spot – Start at the Top of Your Bookshelf & Pick the 27th Book:
House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III.
Your Latest Purchase:
I guess The Bone Houses exclusive edition, which was through the September OwlCrate. So also the Penguin Horror edition of House on Haunted Hill which came in that box.
Zzz-snatcher Book (Book That Kept You Up Way Too Late):
Bird Box by Josh Malerman. A couple years ago when I first read it, I remember I barely slept. I’d stay up to power through it and then the anxiety it caused kept me up even later.
I’d like to officially tag anyone who’d like to join in, whether you want to play here or on Instagram! It’s a lot of fun & will get you thinking about some of your faves. As always, I’d love to hear from you! <3
